A waist belt is worn over your clothes. So the measurement that matters is taken over your clothes, not over your body.

  1. Put on the jacket, coat or dress you intend to wear the belt with.
  2. Place a soft tape where the belt will sit: at the base of the ribcage, just above the navel.
  3. Keep the tape level and comfortable, not tight. Read the number in centimetres.

Match that number against the table on this page. Between two sizes, take the longer one.
how to wear it

Over a plain dark dress. On light cloth or on print it disappears.
On the natural waist, or lower on the hip over a slip dress.
This is the evening one, the only piece here that is not a daytime belt.
Nothing else at the waist.

how to wear it

The rules are short.

Over the coat, not under it. On the narrowest point, not the hip. Let the tail hang. Contrast with the garment. Four lines, and everything already in the wardrobe changes shape.
